Phil Wang For The Orangutans: Taskmaster comedian teams up with Anspach & Hobday and The Wine Society in aid of the Orangutan Foundation
Independent London craft brewery Anspach & Hobday have announced the launch of their brand-new beer in collaboration with Phil Wang and The Wine Society in support of the Orangutan Foundation.
The OrwanguTang is a delicately salty Gose infused with orange zest and mandarin puree. The beer will be sold exclusively through The Wine Society and the Anspach & Hobday webshop, with 50p per can going directly to the Orangutan Foundation. The proceeds of just four cans is enough to sponsor a whole acre of crucial forest habitat in Central Kalimantan.
To celebrate the collaboration, a Q&A event with Phil Wang, Anspach & Hobday Co-Founder Paul Anspach and Buyer for The Wine Society Freddy Bulmer will be held on Wednesday 25th May at Anspach & Hobday’s Bermondsey mixed fermentation brewery and taproom, The Arch House. Tickets cost £5 and include a complimentary 2/3rds pour of the beer and £1 per ticket going directly to the Orangutan Foundation.
The Q&A event will include Phil explaining why he has chosen the Orangutan Foundation, Paul Anspach discussing the beer and brewing process and Freddy Bulmer, Buyer for The Wine Society, hosting. The Q&A will be a light-hearted evening aiming to raise money for and celebrate the Orangutan Foundation.
Phil Wang says:
“As a son of Sabah, the natural beauty of Borneo and our furry orange friends who call it home have always held a special place in my heart. The Orangutan Foundation has been working for 30 years to protect them and their habitat. I’m thrilled to have my face on a can of lovely beer in support of them.”
Ashley Leiman OBE, Founder & Director/Trustee of the Orangutan Foundation says:
“As a critically endangered species, orangutans rely on tropical rainforests for their survival. At Orangutan Foundation, it’s reassuring for us to know that there are people out there, who live far from the tropics, who are as passionate as we are about keeping forests standing for orangutans.”
ABOUT THE ORWANGUTANG
The OrWanguTang (4%) - Brewed in collaboration with The Wine Society and Phil Wang in support of the Orangutan Foundation, The OrWanguTang is a lightly tart, delicately salty Gose, infused with orange zest and mandarin puree.
Azacca hops compliment the sweet orange and bright citrus notes contributed by orange and mandarin, whilst a delicate acidity keeps the beer bright and fresh, balanced by a touch of salt.

ABOUT THE WINE SOCIETY
The Wine Society is a mutually-run business and the world’s oldest member-owned community of wine lovers. Since 1874 it has been doing business differently, putting its members before profit to ensure fairer bottle prices for both the people that enjoy them, and the talented winemakers who craft them, so there is real value in every bottle with no fake discounting required.
The Society aims to offer fair, transparent, competitive and sustainable prices for all wines and services, taking an 'everyday low price' approach, a gimmick-free pricing policy which assures a great deal all year round. This puts profits back into fairer bottle prices for members and growers alike, and keeps margins as low as possible.
Because the eight-strong expert team of buyers – with more than 150 years of experience between them – can buy wines they truly believe in (not the ones that make the most profit) they’re able to seek out the very best wines, whether under-the-radar gems, trusty favourites or fine wine treasures. This means they’re also able to forge fruitful, long-lasting relationships with our valued growers, guaranteeing great quality at every price.
The range of wines and services regularly garners awards, including the current accolades of Decanter Outstanding Retailer of the Year and IWC Merchant of the Year.
