Gweilo Beer & SALT Beer Factory are putting their beer in the hands of their consumers, surprisingly, through NFTs. The craft beer powerhouses have teamed up with blockchain technology platform, Polygon, to create an immersive community initiative for beer lovers and the NFT curious. The very first NFT beer that is designed by people, to be enjoyed by people.
The brew is set to evolve every six months, with each new set of winners collaborating with the breweries to design the next flavour & can design. Not to mention one lucky winner who will receive a share in the revenues.
How? Consumers who purchase the NFT beer can redeem their very own Polygon NFT by scanning a QR code on the can, which will be stocked in selected ASDA stores across the UK.
In a ‘golden ticket’ style lottery, three lucky winners will be issued a speciality NFT:
The first winning NFT is the ‘Golden Cash Prize’, where the winner receives £500 of profits from the sale of the NFT beers.
Imagine how many more beers you could buy with that.
The second winning NFT is the ‘Golden Recipe’, where the winner will be given the opportunity to help develop the next NFT beer flavour. Working with Gweilo’s award-winning head brewer, Charlie Johnson and SALT’s head brewer, Colin Stronge, to develop their own craft beer recipe.
Picture people nationwide, sipping on mum’s famous lemon tart recipe. The flavour possibilities are endless.
Finally, the ‘Golden Label Design NFT’ allows the winner to work alongside Gweilo and SALT’s design teams to create the label for the next beer in the NFT series.
Visualise your face on a beer can being sold in ASDA stores across the UK. The limit is just your imagination.
The initial NFT beer release label has been designed in collaboration with NFT artist Szabotage, who has worked on Gweilo’s core range artwork here in the UK.
Gweilo Beer’s founder, Joseph Gould, says this beer is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to NFTs.
“People think that NFTs are just art. But consumers in the craft beer space are yet to see how NFTs can be used as a mechanism to deliver contracts. We are excited to make the two worlds collide, through this first-of-its-kind initiative.”
The NFT beer is a 6.5% hazy IPA and will be available to buy in 440ml cans from selected ASDA stores across the UK from Wednesday 8th June 2022.
So if you fancy pocketing a few extra quid, designing a beer can, or perhaps, creating a new and exciting beer flavour, then pick up an NFT beer, scan the QR code and follow the instructions.
This project is powered by BCW Group, a strategic partner for the program.
