I love the classic 1985 movie 'The Goonies' and the word play of this milk stout's name is very clever (as Brew York names usually are). It really does connect to the candy bar that Chunk throws at Sloth in the movie as it has all the right flavour characteristics of the American candy bar. But just how good does it taste? FANTASTIC!
It’s been a while since I’ve had a milk stout and I have no idea why I don’t drink more of them, especially if they are as good as Hey You Gyles from Brew York.
Lets start with the aroma. My god is it pleasant! It smells very sweet. I’m getting vanilla, caramel, chocolate and peanut butter with a hint of raspberry jam. I have a sweet tooth so for some it might be too much to handle but if you are a dessert person this is right up your street.
Chocolate and caramel are the prominent flavours in this stout, followed by a smooth sweet taste of marshmallow then some nut. They work so very well together the only way to describe the flavour is to quote Phil Rosenthal on his time eating at Jesus é Goês, the flavours are "making sexy time".
The mouthfeel is as smooth and silky as cold milk and the sweetness leaves a sticky feel in your mouth like eating ice cream.
The ABV is 10% but it doesn’t taste that strong so I could seriously drink this stout all day...which wouldn't be at all advisable.
The packaging is amazing although I heard that they won’t be releasing this in the guise again which is a shame, I think it was due to some copyright issues, my guess it was the Superman logo.
So all in all this is possibly the best milk stout I have ever had and I’m so sad that I didn’t buy more than one can. I also think it is one of the best drinks that Brew York has released in the last few years, so I will have to keep an eye out for future milk stouts they release.
I think I paid around £6 for Hey You Gyles! and if you can find a can at your local bottle shop then I seriously suggest that you part with whatever cash you have on you. It'll be worth it.

About Brew York
Brew York was born out of two friends passion (some would say obsession) for beer and brewing. Creating Brew York was the realisation of a long lived dream to build a brewery in the centre of York where the experience and location is as enjoyable as the beer itself. The brewery consists of a 20 hl Brewhouse and over 260 HL in Fermenting and Conditioning capacity. This gives us the ability to produce a core range of 6 beers and the flexibility to produce the more ‘out there’ seasonal and one-off beers that really excites us. Our beer is produced in Cask, Keg & Can and sold throughout the UK.
